Looking to serve a great dessert at your wedding, engagement party, or wedding shower? Cake pops are a fun option that is also super easy to make and decorate!

The Basics

To make the characteristic round shape of this dessert when hand rolling, remember to cup your hands to keep the mixture rounded and keep it from crumbling. One standard-sized cake pop will use about a tablespoon of mix.

Find the lollipop sticks online or at your local craft store in their baking section! Since cake pops need to stay upright, it’s best to buy a specialty cake pop stand to help with cooling and serving. You may also want to consider buying cello bags and twist ties if you plan on handing these out as favors.

The Recipe

Use the recipe we’ve provided below, choose your favorite recipe, or buy your own box of cake mix. Bake into a sheet, according to the recipe’s instructions.

Basic White Cake

    • 1 cup white sugar
    • 1/2 cup butter
    • 2 eggs
    • 2 tsp vanilla extract
    • 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1-3/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup milk

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 9” X 9” pan.

In a medium bowl, cream together the sugar and butter. Beat in eggs, one at a time, and stir in vanilla. Combine flour and baking powder, add to creamed ingredients, mixing well. Stir in milk until batter is smooth. Pour batter into prepared pan.

Bake 30 to 40 minutes in the preheated oven and check if done with a dry toothpick. You will then set the baked cake aside to let cool before making the actual “pops.”

While the cake cools, make a buttercream frosting from the recipe below (or buy pre-made frosting).

Basic Buttercream Frosting

    • 3 cups powdered sugar
    • 1/3 cup butter softened
    • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 to 2 Tbsp milk

Mix powdered sugar and butter with electric mixer on low speed. Stir in vanilla and one tablespoon of the milk. Slowly beat in just enough additional milk to make frosting smooth and spreadable.

Crumble cake into your frosting and mix. Roll into balls, place sticks into cake balls, and chill until the mixture is hardened.

Dip cake balls into melted chocolate and chill.
