Help put that pre-wedding excitement to good use and personalize your magical day.

Tips on how to plan, design & create affordable decor for a dream wedding.

Why should you DIY?

Creating your own decorations can be affordable, and gives the event a personal touch.  As a result, you will unite your friends and family with a unique experience to begin celebrating the love between you and your spouse. Highlight the important moments in your life together by including pictures, mementos, and catchphrases that represent a timeline of your relationship, for instance.

Know your style

A cohesive theme will centralize design and as a result ease impulsive decisions to buy everything. Therefore, not having an overall theme could quickly deplete a budget and will lead to mismatched decorations. For example, galvanized pails, haystacks, and mason jars, when used together, can create an amazing vintage wedding scene. While adding modern items to the above would destroy the continuity of the desired effect.

Types of wedding themes include but are not limited to:

  • Rustic/ Natural
  • Vintage
  • Industrial
  • Modern
  • Southern

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”3.22″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”3.0.47″][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.21.1″ header_font=”Playfair Display||||||||” header_2_font=”Playfair Display||||||||” header_3_font=”Playfair Display||||||||” header_4_font=”Playfair Display||||||||” header_5_font=”Playfair Display||||||||” header_6_font=”Playfair Display||||||||”]

What should you DIY?

Big items that are central to the event, are low volume and as a result, are perfect for DIY.  Why low in volume? Because putting effort into intricate items is too time-consuming and labor-intensive. Subsequently, brides often overextend themselves with projects such as these. Examples of impractical undertakings are often seen in the form of party favors or invitations, for instance.

However, don’t sacrifice quality over quantity. Larger items will be seen by all and so planning them out properly plays a role in executing the wedding of your dreams.

How to save money

Go thrift shopping for items to fit the theme of your wedding and then up-cycle the items with a new coat of paint or a good cleaning to elevate and bring life to your new purchases.

Common items regularly found in thrift stores include:

  • Picture frames
  • Baskets
  • Mirrors
  • Vases
  • Candleholders

Already have a wedding planner?

When it comes to DIY, the wedding planner can assume the responsibility of making sure these decorations make it to the event unscathed! A wedding planner is an excellent choice for the bride who wants to have a stress free wedding. Sharing ideas and decoration plans with your planner will be useful in styling and designing your DIY projects as well as being helpful in completing the plan for other non-DIY wedding decor essentials.

7 Fun alternatives to a traditional guest book

  1. Every couple wants to remember and thank the people who shared their wedding day with them.  While a traditional guest book is still a wonderful way to keep track of the guests that came to your wedding, they can be a bit boring. Why not liven things up a bit, entertain your guests, and give yourselves a unique gift to celebrate your special day?

7 Fun alternatives to a traditional guest book:

1.Marriage advice cards: have your guests write some words of wisdom on custom stationery. Read them with your new spouse on your honeymoon.  Create a collage to frame with your favorites, put them in a scrapbook, or even put one piece of advice on your bathroom mirror every week.  The possibilities are endless!

2. A Time Capsule:  This was such an interesting idea!  How awesome would it be for your guests to bring a small memento or write out some questions for you to answer, favorite moments of your day, etc?  Plan to open it on your 1st or 5th wedding anniversary!

3. A Canvas:  Paint a blank canvas with the color of your choosing (or keep it white). Then provide paint pens in the color of your choice for your guests to sign/write well wishes on.   Hang it on your wall with your favorite wedding photos!

4. Guest interviews: Have a designated space where guests can leave you a video message! Tip: If you’re using a videographer, talk to him/her about doing this!

5. Rustic themed pieces:  Use wood slices, cork, rocks, etc. for your guests to sign.  After your wedding, apply an acrylic sealant and create a shadow box!

6. Photo guest book:  Grab an instant photo printing camera (like the Fujifilm Instax, a Polaroid camera, a Kodak Printomatic) and have your guests take a selfie! Leave an album on the table, so they can add it immediately.  Grab an album that has a writable note section, and don’t forget lots of extra films!

7. Ceramic piece (plate, décor, etc): Have your guests sign it and display it next to your wedding photos!

Wedding Cake Pops Diy

Looking to serve a great dessert at your wedding, engagement party, or wedding shower? Cake pops are a fun option that is also super easy to make and decorate!

The Basics

To make the characteristic round shape of this dessert when hand rolling, remember to cup your hands to keep the mixture rounded and keep it from crumbling. One standard-sized cake pop will use about a tablespoon of mix.

Find the lollipop sticks online or at your local craft store in their baking section! Since cake pops need to stay upright, it’s best to buy a specialty cake pop stand to help with cooling and serving. You may also want to consider buying cello bags and twist ties if you plan on handing these out as favors.

The Recipe

Use the recipe we’ve provided below, choose your favorite recipe, or buy your own box of cake mix. Bake into a sheet, according to the recipe’s instructions.

Basic White Cake

    • 1 cup white sugar
    • 1/2 cup butter
    • 2 eggs
    • 2 tsp vanilla extract
    • 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1-3/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup milk

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 9” X 9” pan.

In a medium bowl, cream together the sugar and butter. Beat in eggs, one at a time, and stir in vanilla. Combine flour and baking powder, add to creamed ingredients, mixing well. Stir in milk until batter is smooth. Pour batter into prepared pan.

Bake 30 to 40 minutes in the preheated oven and check if done with a dry toothpick. You will then set the baked cake aside to let cool before making the actual “pops.”

While the cake cools, make a buttercream frosting from the recipe below (or buy pre-made frosting).

Basic Buttercream Frosting

    • 3 cups powdered sugar
    • 1/3 cup butter softened
    • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 to 2 Tbsp milk

Mix powdered sugar and butter with electric mixer on low speed. Stir in vanilla and one tablespoon of the milk. Slowly beat in just enough additional milk to make frosting smooth and spreadable.

Crumble cake into your frosting and mix. Roll into balls, place sticks into cake balls, and chill until the mixture is hardened.

Dip cake balls into melted chocolate and chill.

Our secret to a unique sand ceremony

Unity ceremonies involving sand, candles, cord braiding and other traditions are all symbolic of the same thing: bringing two families together in an inseparable way. The usual ideas get tired out, and couples like to come up with their own way of showcasing this union in a tangible way.

A brilliant and simple way to do this is by swapping out your traditional sand ceremony container with an hourglass. While traditional containers for sand ceremonies make beautiful shelf décor, the hourglass concept is a gorgeous and useful keepsake. This is the first symbol of your union. Picking two complementary colors will make the event even more magical and having this unique spin on an age-old tradition will keep your wedding one to remember!

What You Need:
  • Empty hourglass available HERE
  • Sand -two different colors, amount depends on hourglass size
  • Glasses
  • Funnel (optional)

Instructions:

  1. The hourglass should come with instructions as to how much sand it needs to work properly. Divide that amount in half. Put that much sand of one color in one glass. The same amount of sand of the other color should be placed in the second glass. If you are not planning to use the hourglass to measure time, the amount of sand doesn’t matter. Use as much as you would like.
  2. Keep the empty hourglass on a table close to the where you and the officiant will be standing but out of the way so that it isn’t in danger of being knocked over and isn’t awkwardly hanging out in pictures.
  3. When it is time for the hourglass ceremony, you will each grab your glass, and on the officiant’s cue, pour the sand in together.
  4. Close the hourglass, and display it in your new home!
