Austin and Emiley Hammett
TELL US ABOUT YOUR LOVE STORY!
How did you meet?
My husband and I met online. At the time he lived out of the country, and I lived in a neighboring tiny town far from much of a social scene. Online was really our only option for dating. In hindsight, we are so glad we decided to take the big step of a “first online date!”
How did you know he was “The One”?
As I saw my son and my now husband’s relationship begin to blossom, I knew in those moments that I was not the only one falling in love with a wonderful man. My husband knew I was the woman for him as he began meeting my family and realizing how incredible and amazing they were. He knew he struck gold!
How did he propose?
We had a crawfish boil at the house where many of our friends and family gathered. During the blessing of the food, Austin got down on one knee to ask my hand in marriage. Needless to say, I was completely shocked and speechless. And said YES!
Describe your wedding planning process
Did you hire a planner or day-of coordinator?
We had a month-of coordinator, and it was so helpful!
Did you DIY any aspect of your wedding?
I created the vision for the tablescape, champagne tower, and the champagne “sip and be seated” area.
Where did you splurge?
The biggest dollar amount was spent on food, like most weddings, but we do not regret our decision! Everyone we spoke to commented on how delicious the food was!
Why did you choose your venue?
Simply put, Contigo Ranch was breathtaking. The views, the onsite accommodations for our full weekend guests, the staff, the location, and everything else was perfect. When we drove up to the property and interacted with the staff, we just knew this was our venue!
Did you incorporate any special traditions or sentimental details in your ceremony or reception?
A dear friend of ours designed and made tea towels as a gift to all of our guests. They were placed on the plates at each place setting.
What was your most stressful decision?
I put a lot of time and effort into deciding on what and how I wanted our table decor to look. That’s where most of my stress was placed.
What turned out to be your best decision surrounding the big day?
The best decision was putting in the effort, staying organized, thinking of the small things, doing the research, and knowing exactly what I wanted and sticking with it.
Is there anything you would have done differently?
I wish we had had more time to enjoy everything, but that really wasn’t something that we could have changed. We loved our wedding and wish we could relive those precious, magical moments.
Tell Us About...
Your dress:
The dress was from Elle Mae Bridal with a deep v-neck, cream colored, tight fitting, cathedral view, and lace accents throughout.
Your flowers:
Our flowers were hues of deep purple, creamy whites, blush pink, and mauve.
The food:
Our main plates were jerky pork tenderloin, grilled red fish, and stuffed poblano with spinach white beans and jackfruit. Our sides were hearts of palm salad, roast root vegetables, wildflower salad, roasted butternut squash, brussel sprouts, and gouda mac-n-cheese.
The cake:
Our cake was a three-tiered cake with pearls all over! The Groom’s cake was camping themed and looked amazing!
Recap your big day for us
What made you laugh?
I had lots of moments that made me smile, but these were the first few that came to my mind: Seeing my son for the first time in my gown, watching people on the dance floor enjoying themselves, and looking at my husband as I walked down the aisle.
What made you cry?
There were several moments that brought me to tears, but here are a few: listening to my husband’s handwritten vows, seeing my dad in my dress, and watching my mom and mother-in-law open their gifts in front of me.
What were the most memorable moments?
Every part of the evening provided memorable moments. I loved seeing my son in his special outfit, my husband at the end of the aisle waiting for me, my mom’s reaction when she saw me in her wedding dress, seeing everyone enjoy themselves throughout the night, etc. There are just too many!
Did anything unexpected happen?
I knew it was happening, but to my mother’s surprise I wore my mother’s wedding dress when my husband and I made our grand entrance into the reception space. My mother was absolutely blown away!
What’s the best advice you can give a bride and groom planning their wedding?
Remember to reconnect and love your spouse throughout the process, especially as it gets more and more stressful.
What did you look forward to most as Mr. and Mrs.?
At the beginning, I simply couldn’t wait to honeymoon together. Now I relish our new titles, husband and wife. And I look forward to making some adorable human beings that we get to raise and admire every day!
