Tell us your love story!

How We Met

David and I met at an open gym the summer before my junior year and his senior year in high school. He didn’t say two words to me until I tried to trip him one day and ended up kicking him in his calf.  He got my number the next day, and we talked all night! That is where our story together began.

I knew he was THE ONE the moment I noticed that he was my best friend not just in a romantic way but in  a way where I knew I didn’t want to do life without him.

How Did He Propose?

While straightening up our closet, I found a ring! I can’t hold water, so I told him I found it, and he responded, “Now I don’t have to propose!” A month later while on a trip to Vegas, David flew my mom out and proposed by a waterfall statue. I had no idea my mom was even there! She’s my best friend, so having her share in our special moment made it all the more memorable!

Tell us about your wedding planning process.

Who helped with your wedding planning?

I honestly winged the whole thing. I had help from my now husband and mom. There is no guide to planning a wedding when in the middle of the process you’re hit with a pandemic.  I was very blessed to have a friend and previous co-worker who used to plan events to be my day of coordinator.  Actually, if I am being honest, just having the wedding was my best decision. I really did not want to have a formal wedding just due to the process of actually planning, but I am so glad my husband convinced me otherwise.

Truthfully, the decision to continue with our plans was extremely stressful.  I don’t know about other brides, but wondering if anyone was going to get sick from attending really had my husband and me second guessing our choice to proceed. Our guests’ safety was our number one priority, so the last two weeks we were definitely checking in with guests to make sure everyone was healthy.

When asked if there is anything I would have done differently, I would say it would be not to wear a strapless dress! LOL! I was pulling it up all night. Other than that, nope. It was the best day of my life!

Why did you choose your venue?

I had originally chosen another venue, but after the second visit, I decided I did not like it. A coworker told me about the bridge at Milltown, and I looked it up and fell in love with the view. The ladies who work there were great!

What were you inspired by while planning your wedding?

I was going for an enchanted theme. All the fairy lights and flowers I used had a real rustic fairy vibe.  I chose mauve and navy for my colors.  I wanted simple. I was thinking about cost and how much do I really want to pick up at the end of the night. I used lanterns with flowers and fairy lights inside for some tables, and mason jars with fairy lights and flowers inside as the centerpieces. I wanted fairy lights everywhere! I decided not to have any real flowers. My wedding was originally supposed to be outside and I have a big fear of bees, so out of caution I decided on no real flowers. My pockets thanked me, too! The theme I was going for was “enchanted.”  Pinterest was very helpful. When I saw setups I liked on Pinterest, I just bought things from Hobby Lobby and Amazon to mirror the images.

Did you DIY any aspect of your wedding?

I made all the centerpieces, and the single flower bouquets that my bridesmaids carried. My husband designed our seating chart and agenda for our signs. We tried to DIY as much as possible but were realistic about it as well.

We were able to save most with our officiate and DJ choices! Well, my grandpa didn’t ask me for money, and the DJ happened to be a long time family friend so I was blessed with a discount.

We splurged on the photos and the photo booth. Both were worth every penny!!!! I have formal pictures and ratchet pictures, and I love them all!

Tell us about your dress!

I loved my dress! I chose it for the see through area in my midsection and the fairy tale princess shape. The lace and beading really incorporated the enchanted look I was going for. I do, however, wish I had added straps because right after the ceremony, I had to keep pulling it up.

Recap your big day for us!

What are some of your favorite highlights of your wedding day?

One highlight was having my family, friends and whole ceremony full of laughter. Another was when my dad walked away before my grandpa asked who gives her away which was funny. Also there was a line in the vows that caught me off guard. I guess my face gave it away because the venue filled with laughter. I loved that it wasn’t so serious.

What made you cry?

I cried when my dad and I had our first look. My dad is not an emotional person at all so to see him like that was such a tear jerker.

What were the most memorable moments?

The first look I did with my dad was memorable. I’m so glad I decided to do it that way. Also, saying I do was memorable of course as well as our first dance. I dreamed about the song being our first song, so it made it really special.

What unexpected things happened?

The rain and wind was something in which we had not planned. I had wanted more pictures outside but had to take them in other areas. I think I handled it well. I didn’t panic. Damian, the photographer, had it all figured out, so I was able to relax.

What’s the best advice you can give a bride and groom planning their wedding?

Plan it together! I know people joke about weddings only being for the bride, but it truly does go more smoothly when there is equal input.

What did you look forward to most as Mr. & Mrs.?

I looked forward to finally being able to call him my husband and to FINALLY stop hearing the question, “When are y’all getting married?”
